TRC & Central IT Knowledge Transfer Project
I’m Chris and for the past 3 months I have had the fortune of working on secondment with the Arts and Social Sciences Technical Resource Centre (TRC), this has been part of a UNSW IT Service Desk and TRC knowledge transfer project.
First of all I must say how grateful I am to have been given this opportunity to work with such a fantastic group of people, I have been welcomed from day one and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here thus far. The secondment has given me a chance to build a personal relationship with the members of the team and to finally put names and voices of people with whom I would correspond with while at the IT Service Desk with faces. While working with the team, I have learnt about the departments many unique systems which are used by the academic and professional staff in the faculty. I have also become familiar with the various types of IT and AV equipment available for loan and use in the teaching spaces. I am working to relay this knowledge back to those at the Service Desk to ensure that they are aware of how to best deal with related email and phone requests and incident reports. This transfer of knowledge will also assist in increasing the level of IT-related service that is offered to the academic and professional staff in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
During my secondment I have also worked on a number of projects that include but are not limited to; the implementation of computer hardware in the new collaborative teaching and conference spaces around the faculty, improving the security of the faculty’s computer hardware and its data, and providing assistance in developing services which can allow the TRC to provide a better IT experience to those who are wishing to utilize the technology in our facilities or are visiting from outside the University.
My time with the TRC has been both informative and enjoyable. The secondment has been an experience that I believe will be beneficial for both the TRC and central UNSW IT Service Desk.
