The Multimedia & Immersive Technology Team (MAIT) were able to recover data from a Floppy Disk for Katie Bird, the UNSW archivist. Jason Chan was able to extract the alumni database from the disk using a 1993 PowerBook 165C.

360° videos, also known as immersive videos, are video recordings where a view in every direction is recorded at the same time. During playback the viewer has control of the viewing direction like a panorama, a form of virtual reality.
The TRC currently have a Double Virtual Presence (VP) robot from Double Robotics. We are interested in piloting possible use cases for this technology.

The faculty is now trialling extended access to Morven Brown Labs 103, 105 and 106 for Humanities & Languages (HAL) students. HAL students who are already enrolled in a course held in one of these rooms now have extended access from 8am to 8pm seven days per week around the timetabled course
I’m Chris and for the past 3 months I have had the fortune of working on secondment with the Arts and Social Sciences Technical Resource Centre (TRC), this has been part of a UNSW IT Service Desk and TRC knowledge transfer project.
The Technical Resource Centre team has recently finished upgrading the Robert Webster G17 Lecture theatre to improve usability as well as rolling out new a new document camera, Blu-Ray player and speaker system to meet the needs of music and media rich teaching.

The Technical Resource Centre team has recently finished upgrading the John Goodsell 221-223 and 119 lecterns to make them easier for staff to use for seminars and workshops. The integration works provide a consistent experience for staff and are part of ongoing upgrades to AV enabled teaching
Semester 2, 2014 has seen the opening of a new "Virtual" Lab available to all UNSW Arts and Social Sciences staff and students.
In response to Adobe’s recently announced subscription based licencing model, Creative Cloud, the TRC conducted an online survey to gain a snapshot of how the UNSW Arts and Social Sciences community use these powerful products.
A new seminar-style computer lab is now located on level 1 (rm.107) of the Morven Brown Building. Any UNSW Arts and Social Sciences course can be timetabled into this space and casual bookings can be made via the casual bookings form.
