Setting up Moodle groups
The following steps outline how to set up basic groups in Moodle using the manual enrolment method (random enrolment and student self-enrolling are also options). Once created, these groups can be combined with many other activities in Moodle.
Creating groups
- Login to Moodle and enter the course area
- Scroll down to the Settings block, expand Users and click on Groups
- In the main section of the screen, click Create Group
- Complete the form on the following screen and click Save Changes
- Repeat process as necessary
Adding group members
- Login to Moodle and enter the course area
- Scroll down to the Settings block, expand Users and click on Groups
- Click on a group in the Groups column on the left
- Click the Add/Remove Users button beneath the right column
- On the following screen, locate and select potential members in the right column, then click the Add button between the two columns
- The screen will refresh, displaying the new group members in the left column (these changes are saved automatically)
- Repeat this process as necessary
You can also create groups by importing, see creating groups via an imported excel spreadsheet.
