Setting up Moodle blogs
- Login to Moodle and enter the course area
- Ensure the Turn Editing On button has been clicked
- Scroll down to the topic area where you want the blog link to appear, and click Add an activity or resource
- Select the radio button beside OU Blog in the pop-up, and click Add
- Complete the form on the following page, ensuring each setting is configured to meet the needs of the activity
- Individual blogs setting - In particular, confirm whether Individual blogs are to be used
- No (blog together or in groups) – will check the configuration of the Common module settings area (more in point 7 below) to determine whether group blogs are being used, otherwise it will create a single course blog
- Separate Individual blog – restricts each student to their own blog, preventing them from viewing the blogs of other students
- Visible Individual blog – allocates each student their own blog, but allows them to read (not contribute to) the content in another student’s blog
- Group blogs setting – Review the Common module settings section of the form, noting the following. (Please note: if groups are desired, they must be set up separately. See this article for details.):
- Group Mode: No groups – If you have chosen either Separate or Visible Individual blogs, each student will be allocated their own blog, otherwise all students will post to a single course blog
- Group Mode: Separate groups – restricts each group to their own blog, preventing one group from viewing the activity in another group’s blog
- Group Mode: Visible groups – allocates each group their own blog, but allows them to read (not contribute to) the content in another group’s blog.
- Click Save and return to course when complete
